Bernie & Sue McGrath Receive Martin Chaves Lifetime Achievement Award

Recently Oregon State University honored Bernie (’70) and Suzanne (’70) McGrath with the Martin Chaves Lifetime Achievement Award during Destination OSU events held in Scottsdale, Ariz.

Through their leadership and philanthropy, Sue and Bernie McGrath have made a profound impact on OSU Athletics, particularly the baseball program. Among other projects, they were instrumental volunteer fundraisers for the renovation of Goss Stadium and the creation of the Pat Casey Baseball Endowment. They are also strong supporters of OSU football and part of the Head Coach’s Circle. Before his retirement, Bernie worked in the Tualatin Tigard School District at Tualatin High School. Sue is president of Vision Capital Management, Inc., an investment management firm she co-founded with her daughter, Marina Johnson. Sue was a member of the OSU Foundation Board of Trustees for more than 12 years. Bernie has served on the Our Beaver Nation advisory board since 2005 and is currently vice president. They are members of the James H. Jensen Society.

Martin Chaves was a four-year letterman who was the captain of the 1942 Rose Bowl team. A former president of the Beaver Athletic Student Fund, Chaves was an influential booster in various fundraising activities. The annual award is presented to people who have made outstanding contributions to OSU athletics.
